God's Mysteries Revealed in Jesus

The Bible speaks of the “mysteries” of God, His ways that differ from human wisdom and expectations. Jesus himself declared that not everyone is able to understand the “mysteries of the kingdom.” It is God who reveals the deep and hidden things to whomever He chooses; and now, in His Don, He has done so for all who have “eyes that can see” - (Isaiah 55:8, Mark 4:11, Daniel 2:22-27) - [

The New Testament declares that God did not disclose a complete understanding of His redemptive plan until the appropriate time, that is to say, in the “fullness of the seasons”:
  • (Romans 16:25-27) – “Now, to him who has power to establish you, according to my gospel, even the proclamation of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of a mystery, in age-past times kept silent, but now made manifest, and through means of prophetic scriptures, according to the command of the everlasting God, for obedience of faith for all the nations made known, to God, wise alone, through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory unto the ages. Amen.
  • (Galatians 4:4) – “But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth his Son, who came to be of a woman, who came to be under law.
He certainly revealed some truth in the Levitical system and its elaborate rituals, and elsewhere in the “Law and the prophets.” But the earlier word was partial and incomplete - (“In many parts and many ways of old” – Hebrews 1:1).

The prophets foretold the coming salvation that would be revealed in the Messiah; however, they did not possess or comprehend all the details and ramifications of the promise:
  • (1 Peter 1:10-12) – “Concerning which salvation prophets, who concerning the grace for you did prophesy, sought out and searched out, searching into what particular or what manner of season the Spirit of Christ which was in them was pointing to, when witnessing beforehand as to the sufferings for Christ and the glories after these, to whom it was revealed that, not to themselves but to us they were ministering them, which things have now been announced to you through them who have told you the good tidings with Holy Spirit sent forth from heaven; into which things angels are coveting to obtain a nearer view.
  • (Hebrews 1:1-2) – “Whereas, in many parts and in many ways of old, God spoke to the fathers in the prophets; at the end of these days, He has spoken to us in his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things.”
The “mystery” concealed previously has now been revealed in Jesus, and at the appointed season; above all, in his Death and Resurrection.  The “law and the prophets” were vital parts of God’s revelation, but in them many of His “mysteries” remained hidden. However, now, they now disclosed in His Son - And nowhere else.

With his coming, that is, the “word made flesh,” the rituals and regulations of the Mosaic legislation have been relegated to the status of “shadows and types,” and Jesus is the figure that cast the ancient “shadows.” To return to an outmoded ritual or a partial truth amounts to regression, not revelation, a return to bondage under the “elemental things” of the fallen age, including the “powers, principalities, archons, angels, and world-rulers” - (Galatians 4:8-11, Ephesians 6:8-12Colossians 2:16-17).

Neither is there any need to resort to mystical practices, the observation of astronomical signs, or the decoding of Hebrew letters for deeper insight into divine “mysteries.” In “these last days,” His nature and “mysteries” are revealed fully in His Son, Jesus, and they are open and available to anyone who hears the “
word of the Son.”

The hidden “mystery” that the prophets and angels desired to understand is revealed to all men and women of faith, regardless of gender, education, or ethnicity. What is required is not secret knowledge or mystical insight, but the “obedience of faith.” The mystery, “not made known in other generations, has now been revealed” in Jesus for all to see.

Moses gave the Law, but “grace and truth came to be in Jesus.” In him, the knowledge of the Father has been revealed. The grace and fullness of Yahweh are found today in the “face of Jesus Christ” - (John 1:14-18, 2 Corinthians 4:6).
